The 2016 Bred Bank Charity Swim was held on Saturday 14th with great success. More than 46 adults and 13 kids swam in the crystal clear harbour and shared in the amazing randomly drawn prizes sponsored by Bred Bank. Major prizes included 50 000, 40 000, 30 000 and 20 000 vatu discount vouchers for international or domestic air travel, a Helicopter tour, Scuba and Snorkel tours and Zipline vouchers. It was wonderful to see many new swimmers and teams enjoying the day. Our primary sponsor of over 7 years Darryl Constantin from Bred Bank said “I am very happy to be part of the Masterbathers, and am so glad my daughter saw me swim today”.

The 2.5km place getters received dugong statues crafted by Johanin Bangdor. And the male winner was Matt Cook in a time of 40 minutes, 50 seconds, Jake Ward in 2nd place in 41.00, and Phil Dooney in 3rd place at 44.52. In the female category Nicole Smith swam in 1st place in a time of 45. 31, 2nd place Jackie Potgeiter in 49.10, and 3rd place Jo Jo Ferris in 53.02. The team category displayed fantastic camaraderie with Joyce and Nancy Miyake, and Jen Bowtell coming 1st in a time of 53.06.

Our swimmers of the future showed great enthusiasm with some tightly fought contests. The under 10 years girls race had Jaime O’Connor in 1st place, and Maia Dooney and Ullysia St-Hilaire in equal 2nd place. The under 10 years boys had a close finish with Leo Lebot winning by a fingernail, 2nd place to Thomas Jenkins, followed by Ben Potgeiter and Tristan James. The over 10 years category was won by Grace Dooney, 2nd place to Iris Lebot, and 3rd place to Cleotina James. Well done!

This event would not have been possible without the spectacular patronage and support of Darryl and the team from Bred Bank. The next Masterbathers race is the 3.2km Iririki Island Charity Open Water Swim on the 28th May. So dust off your goggles and see you in the harbour!
